Yep, we're oblivious

I've always known that as an American citizen there are certain government issues that are kept secret. What I didnt know was that everyone else in the world knew. Many things in this essay came as a shock to me. In particular, the attitude of government officials to mistakes and responses to "blowbacks". One statement that really shocked me was when former President Bush said that he would "never apologize for the United States" no matter "what the facts are." This to me demonstrated the pride and unwillingness to accept responsibility for our actions. Another issue in this essay that made me reevaluate what I thought I knew was the fact that we have many "blowbacks" when we help certain political and business leaders. For example, economic support to Saddam Hussein in hopes of economic advancements with oil. There were many other shocking details like the story of Sobuwa and the freedom activists in prison who got tortured and humiliated. Overall, this essay has made me come to realize that the United States foriegn policies might not have the best intentions and that the American people get an altered version of the truth.
